This Sunday we give thanks for our Mothers, who gave us the gift of life, and nurtured us into being, and we thank our loving God who nurtures and cares for us all. Aren’t we all looking for people who really care for us, understand us, respect us? All of us who want to deepen spiritually and grow in a life of love, prayer and compassion need a mentor who will help us on this road. Jesus, the Word made flesh, knows how much we all need good, loving, and wise shepherds so that we may grow to a fuller human & spiritual maturity. Not only does Jesus reveal himself as the Good and Wonderful Shepherd, radiant with the Mothering Love of God, but each one of us, as we grow to maturity, is called to be a good shepherd, a servant-leader for others.

The Risen Lord appears to the Disciples a third time and they celebrate an extraordinarily generous catch of fish. God seeks to bless each and every one of us with abundance. Even Peter, who had denied Jesus three times, finds forgiveness, new hope and strength, as encouraged by the gracious love of Jesus, he accepts his vocation to love others as he has been loved.

The disciples are hunkered down in the Upper Room, confused, dispirited, and lost in grief, when suddenly Jesus appears bringing hope, peace and Easter Joy. As the great French theologian Pierre Teilhard de Chardin observed, “Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.” May your Easter Season continue to be blessed.
